In order for humans and our pets to use CBD, it first has to be what’s known as “extracted,” or removed, from the hemp plant. There are three main methods of extraction.
Isolate CBD

While isolate CBD is considered to be the purest form of CBD because its extraction process removes everything except for the CBD, those nutrients that are removed in the extraction process are actually also helpful to the body. The isolate CBD extraction process removes all cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids so the remaining extract only contains pure CBD.
But it’s these cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids that are removed in the isolate CBD process that if used, work together to create what’s known as the “entourage effect” in the body and therefore work together with the CBD to be more effective and absorb better in the body than just using CBD alone.
Broad Spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD is an extraction process that in addition to removing the hemp plant’s impurities, also seeks to remove almost all traces of THC and THCa. This allows the extracted CBD to retain many of the plant’s helpful cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids.
Proponents of broad-spectrum CBD prefer to leverage the CBD “entourage effect” while omitting any traces of THC. It is important to note however, any remaining amounts of THC after the extraction process would in fact be just that, traces of CBD that cannot cause any psychotic effects.
Full Spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD is considered the preferred extraction method because it retains the most amount of naturally occurring phytochemicals from the hemp plant.
The full spectrum extraction process includes the most number of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, and it also includes trace amounts of THC and THCa (less than .03 percent). Having that little amount of THC in the oil will not produce the “high” that recreational marijuana users experience but instead will work together with the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids to produce an “entourage effect” that proponents believe is more effective than any other type of extraction available.
PetSoothe is proud to use full-spectrum CBD and our supplier even goes one step further by going through a distillation process that further refines the CBD oil. The distillation process involves gently heating the oil so the lipids, fats, and waxes, which are naturally occurring in the cannabis plant, are separated from the oil. Once distilled, the oil is more refined and definitely purer.
At PetSoothe, we fully believe in and embrace the solvent-less CO2 extraction process, as it is the cleanest and most natural method available.
